Unnai Pol Oruvan begins

Versatile actor Kamal Haasan has started shooting for his new bilingual film Unnai Pol Oruvan (Ee Nadu in Telugu), starring Malayalam superstar Mohanlal in a prominent role, at Ramoji Film City near Hyderabad.

A remake of the critically acclaimed Hindi film A Wednesday, Unnai Pol Oruvan is directed by debutant Chakri, who had earlier worked in Kamal Haasan starrer Sagara Sangamam (1983). The film is produced simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu by Kamal Haasan’s production banner Raj Kamal and UTV Productions.

In A Wednesday, Naseeruddin Shah was the lead protagonist and Kamal Haasan will play his role in both the versions. The Telugu version will have Venkatesh playing the role of Anupam Kher, while Mohanlal will be essaying the same role in the Tamil version.

Kamal Haasan’s daughter Shruthi Haasan, a well-known singer and actress, will be making her debut as a music director with this film, which is now expected to finish rolling and hit theatres in July.

The story of A Wednesday revolves around the Mumbai police commissioner who reminisces about the most challenging case in his career and how he tackled it. Produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Shital Bhatia and Anjum Rizvi, A Wednesday marked the return of the Anupam Kher-Naseeruddin Shah duo on screen after 12 years. It got strong positive reviews and critical acclaim, particularly for its storyline.
