Now, sources in the industry say that Trisha is the front runner to be Kamal Haasan’s heroine in an untitled film, directed by K S Ravikumar and produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is also said to be playing a parallel role in the film. When contacted, Trisha refused to comment as she was yet to sign the film, which is likely to start rolling early next year.

After playing the lead to some of the biggest names in south Indian films like Chiranjeevi, Mahesh Babu, Venkatesh, Vijay, Ajith and Suriya, Trisha is being paired with the Ulaganayagan for the first time.

Sources close to her say, “It will be a dream come true for Trisha. She had earlier canned a few scenes with Kamal for Marmayogi, which was subsequently put on the backburner.”

Trade analysts say that it is a fantastic comeback for the actress that could put her right back at the top. Veteran trade analyst Krishnan says, “In Kollywood, the shelf life of a top heroine these days is only three to five years. Trisha will get another chance to bounce back to the top if she signs the film with Kamal. Now, 2010 looks like a shootout between T & T (Tamannaah vs Trisha).”

“I play the role of Piya, a headstrong girl, who trains to be a doctor. In fact, I’d go even to the extent of stating that Piya of ‘3 idiots’ is more real than even Geet of ‘Jab We Met’ and when you set out to watch Piya in ‘3 idiots’ you will even forget that it is Kareena Kapoor that you are watching on the screen. Kareena admits that she has not read the book ‘Five Point Someone’ written by Chetan Bhagat. “In any case, though Vidhu Vinod Chopra has officially bought the right to the book, Raju has written quite a different script for the film and ‘3 idiots’ is not entirely based on the book but a take off from that in Raju Hirani style. Yes. The basic premise has of course been maintained but the characters, the situations and the end are quite different. In fact, there is just a five per cent similarity between the book and what you see on the screen”.

According to Kareena, the campus and the classroom setting for ‘3 idiots’ are the only things that remain true to the book and everything else is entirely different, because the film has a very original plot, which is inspired from the book and not based on the book.

In fictional form, it features prominently in Vikas Slumdog Millionaire Swarap’s excellent book Six Suspects. Jessica was a hard-working woman of thirty-four. A part-time model, she was working as a celebrity barmaid at a private socialite party at the Tamarind Court restaurant on April 29th, 1999, when she was shot dead at point blank range for refusing to serve a drink to a drunk Manu Sharma, the son of Congress politician Venod Sharma. After a process that lasted seven years, Manu was - to everyone’s incredulity - found innocent. Uproar ensued as the people recognised this as a step too far in the establishment’s protection of its own interests. Unusually, the prosecution appealed and after it became clear that key witnesses had been bribed and evidence destroyed, Sharma was eventually found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Ajith starrer Asal is almost complete barring a few scenes. One of the important scenes in the film was shot yesterday at the Sivaji Ganesan house in T Nagar Chennai. A song that features Ajith and Bhavana is being shot at the AVM Studios today. With this, the major portion of the shooting seems to have come to an end.

There are reports from Kollywood that Ajith, along with the Asal team, including its director Saran, will participate in a press meet that is scheduled to be held on December 15th, 2009. More information pertaining to Asal is expected to be out during the press meet.

Releasing this Friday is Jeevan’s glamorous Naan Avan Illai-2, in which the hero is paired with five sexy heroines — Sangeetha, Lakshmi Rai, Hema Malini, Shwetha Menon and Rachna Maurya.

Says director Selva, “Naan Avan Illai-2 is a sequel to my earlier Naan Avan Illai, which itself was a remake of KB sir’s film by the same name. The story of a con man taking five girls for a ride worked wonders at the box-office, which made us do a sequel. The sequel too has the same guy working his charm on five females, this time in foreign locations. It has a stunning climax that leaves us scope to do another sequel!”

Recently, Jayam Ravi’s action-laden SP Jananathan-directed Peraanmai turned out to be a hit. The movie had five heroines, though there is no love angle in the film. Says Jananathan, “Our audiences have matured and there is no compulsion to have a love angle if the story is gripping. In my film, all the five girls secretly admire the hero after initially hating him. There are so many people in real life who have remained friends with women they meet without entering into a romantic relationship.”

Says Hitesh Jhabak, producer of Naan Avan Illai-2, “Newspapers and magazines are full of stories of guys who marry many times and con women. The thread for our film has come from real life and the way Selva has packaged it with entertaining elements is what will make the film tick.”

As per trade reports, the film is releasing big and all areas have been sold out. Says K Rajan, a distributor, “It is an old concept that works with mass male audiences. Instead of having one glamorous heroine like Nayanthara or Shriya, for the price of one ticket you can watch five glam girls.” Director Selva has given almost every girl importance and equal footing in the film with a song each. In the climax, all the five girls sing together with Jeevan!

Meanwhile, one-hero-multiple-heroines seem to be the new commercial formula for success. Watch out for Venkat Prabhu’s Goa which has Sneha, Piaa, Neleine Marya, an Australian actress, and Nayanthara in a cameo. Then, there is Vishal and three girls Neetu Chandra, Sarah, Tanushree Datta in Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai, followed by Vinay, Sneha, Sandhya and Kasturi in Nootrukku Nooru. The rumour mill is working overtime stating that Selvaraghavan’s new untitled film with Vikram will have three heroines, though the director refuses to comment. As of now, all eyes are on Naan Avan Illai-2. If it succeeds, the floodgates will open.

Addressing the media on the plot of the film, Aamir Khan said, “The film discusses plethora of issues its not only for the engineering students where the film is set. The subject of the film is relevant to those students or the parents who want their kids to be successful after studying. It addresses various questions like what do we understand by success.”

Bollywood actor Sharman Joshi, who essays the role of Alok in the film, said that he related to the characters, which were essayed by Aamir, R. Madhavan and him.

“What I would like to believe is that there are certain qualities which the character portrays. I am trying to have hold over them, so at certain level I do relate to the characters of the film,” Joshi said.
